Remodel Debacle: To Valance or Not to Valance?

The neighbors will have to find a different reality show as they will no longer be able to watch the events of our living room, the roman shades are hung!  Notice, I said "hung" not "finished."  As you can see from the front of the pattern, it clearly says "1 hour*" ... "sewing time per item for single size windows."  Um, that's probably true.... I probably didn't spend more than 4 hours actually sitting at the sewing machine during this event (there are 4 shades total, the other is on a side window). First, there was the 3 trips from Camas to the Mill End Store in Milwaulkie--a 35 minute trip each way IF there's no traffic and IF the driver doesn't think he remembers how to get there. Only to buy the fabric that was the very first fabric we picked out on the very first of the three trips. Then there was a trip to all three major craft stores in Vancouver, one craft store in NE Portland, and at least two trips to Home Depot. I only just finally found the right cord cleats, ordered from the internet--my most preferred way of shopping!  Once the supplies were amassed, there was the measuring, cutting, ironing, pinning, and sewing.

 And seam ripping and resewing the one that was sewn together inside out.  And seam ripping and resewing the one that was cut wrong (luckily cut too large, not too small).  Even though I technically sewed 6 shades to get 4, it still took a little more than one hour per window!!

But here is the real question:  To Valance or Not to Valance? How do you vote?
