Despite being in recovery, or maybe because of it, plus it being a Friday night without the kiddos, we hit the local movie theater last night for the main screen show. Our local theater is the Liberty Theater a beautifully restored 2 screen theater, originally built in the 1920s. The second screen (they call it the "small screen") was really an afterthought, designed to allow them to show last week's movie and still bring in this week's movie. We made the mist
ake just once of visiting the "small screen." That was enough. When we go, its for the "main screen." The movies are always at the same time--5:30 and 8:00--so there's no need to check the paper for times. Plus, the movie theater's only about 5 blocks from here so even if we get there and the "main screen" looks terrible, there's not much of a time investment. We can make up with a tour through the library and a stop at Dairy Queen. Last night's movie was a fantastic surprise. If we were more plugged into modern media (e.g., watched television), it probably would not have been. The main screen was showing Juno. Such a sweet movie! I laughed, I gasped, I crewed my nails, I cried. I would even see it again, today. And I usually shy away from seeing a movie more than once unless I can use it to fall asleep. There is one scene that takes place in a cafeteria, which made me want cafeteria jello bad enough that after the movie we drove over to the new Ikea across the river for dinner. We hadn't been there since it opened last summer. We tried once, but it was like trying to find parking at the county fair. It was crazy! No jello at this Ikea, but we did get our fill of Swedish meatballs and lingonberry soda. By the time we made it home, it was after 9 and my voice had completely left me. I guess my cold is still here.
