Urban Chickens in the Winter

Turns out that having chickens in the city covers lots of bases. Where all our friends with chickens who live in the country have to buy grit (our chickens eat the gravel in the parking area) and make due with fewer eggs when the days shorten, we still get a full haul, thanks to the street lamp that shines on our parking area / chicken coop. We now get 4 eggs a day! (We sold our first dozen on Sunday too!) Bootstrap and Speckles (the black and white chicken has a new name, because she's speckled and so are her eggs!) lay the big brown eggs (the tall Snacker calls them pink), Arie lays the beautiful green egg and as of today, lady with her tiny little Bantam egg. They make quite a racket, the four of them out there singing their egg songs all a the same time. A lot like Papa Snacker and the kiddos when they all get going. :-)

  1. Who knew the benefits of keeping chickens in the city? And, seriously, I don't think I could eat green eggs- even with ham on the side...
