Garden in January!

Posted by PicasaDon built me a beautiful raised garden bed last spring. But then we filled it with the wrong kind of dirt. Instead of the nice compost blend we thought we were getting, the dirt was a sterile three-in-one blend. Nothing grew, not seed, not transplants, not even weeds. After ignoring it for a while, we finally got a couple loads of horse manure from the 4-H camp. Then things really took off! All the seeds I'd sown back in April and May, started sprouting in October and November. Finally! Radishes and Kale and Lettuces and Bok Choi and Spinach, just in time for winter!! Don built me a lovely Appalachian style cover to keep my winter greens happy. Even the week of below freezing temperatures didn't wipe us out. I can't wait for spring. Bring on the seed catalogs!
