DC Trip Day One

Delta Flight to NYC: headphones--$2; internet connection--$12.95; snack box--$5; pomegranate martini--$7; 4 hours of uninterrupted meditation time—priceless.
Day one,
Traveling is different these days. For one, our daily life is just more complicated. Or is it more simplistic, and the disruption of our routine is what creates the complications? I think I strive for simplicity in daily life, but maybe I'm confusing simplicity with routine. Regardless, the disruption of my travel affects the whole family. Don's anxious; Hannah's upset; Bailey's angry; all according to each person's general nature. But, it's good for all of us for me to get away periodically. Teaches them independence; gives me time for reflection.
I've come to the conclusion that air travel is designed for and caters to my people—nerds. There are lots of entertainment options—books, laptop, movie, ipod, magazines, watching the other passengers. My entertainment options are unlimited, as long as I don't actually want to move. On the flight to NYC, I did have the luxury of an entire row to myself. Lots of room to spread out, relax, try to catch up on sleep, watch a movie, type on the computer, read a book, drink coffee, get some work done, blog!. Except for the background hum of the engines and dearth of fuzzy felines, air travel is not all that different from a Sunday morning at home. Except I make better coffee. J

  1. I think routine follows simplifying... There's less junk to get in the way of the usual goings on. I happen to love routine...
I also think, if they're all stressing due to your leaving town, you don't go away often enough! :)

  2. The next few weeks is going to test that theory! Washington DC today, Seattle and Reno next week, Bend a couple weeks later....
