Snow Days continue at the Ongoing Debacle

The first snow day, December 14. Enough to say it snowed and to cancel school, but not enough to really disrupt our lives.
A week later, December 21. Wow! Enough snow to actually stick. Cool! We tried to leave the house, but the car was frozen. By the time it was thawed enough to go, I had lost interest in the idea and decided to wait a day. Besides, at least one of our stops (IKEA) was closed for the weather!! But it looks like we'll be waiting more than a day. Here's the view today. Can you believe, it's still here? Snow here never lasts a day, let alone a week. Don's been keeping up with the shoveling pretty well. Quite an accomplishment considering it's a corner lot with a big driveway, and access doors on all four sides (so lots and lots and lots of sidewalks). I heard him out there early this morning while I was still cuddling kitties, planning my day from the warmth of the bed. When I finally did wander out for coffee, he was moping around the kitchen. "Have you seen the latest nightmare?" he says. He's discouraged because he's shoveled berms of snow. "This kind of stuff doesn't go away, it'll be here until spring!" Poor guy. See, the steelhead are running and our van can't make it up the hill to his favorite fishing spot.

  1. The last two weekends we have gotten 8 inches each time. It was 25 below this morning and has been all last week. We still have school.

  2. I grew up in Spokane. We routinely got snow, sometimes up to our knees. We never once had a snow day. Here, if the National Weather Service so much as mentions snow in a forecast, the schools call a snow day.

  3. Same in New York - snow days were rare. And if the TV stations pre-empted soap operas for "storm coverage" boy would they have heard about it!! You did that back in the day at your peril!!
