Finally! Our first egg. I don't know who is more proud, me or Bootstrap. Well really, Bootstrap seems unaware (and her second egg was . Besides, she had other things to worry about Sunday afternoon. Shortly after we found the egg, the chickens were chased off the lot by a neighborhood dog. The neighbor from down the block came over to tell us she had four of them on the back of her property. Four?! Ack! We have FIVE!! And it was my prized egg laying cherry thief that had gone missing. I thought I would cry. So I went one direction and Don we
nt the other. The whole neighborhood must have heard me yelling when I found black feathers on the sidewalk. But it was only a few feathers and I wasn't going home without the carcass of both the chicken AND the dog. Finally, I found her. She had taken refuge on the other side the block amongst a stack of street side recycling bins. For once, she let me pick her up without a fight, and cart her home. I never did find the dog, but Papa Chicken Keeper tells me he had a "chat" with the dog owner. The dog's been allowed to continue living, but who knows for how long.
