Camas. They call it Royal Icing. The "Royal" part is right anyway. The first step is to run all over town to find the secret ingredient--Meringue Powder. Despite it being "food" according to state tax laws, no grocery store will carry it. Now I know why, it would be a fine target for shoplifting given the price per square inch of packaging!
The second step is to mix an impossibly large amount of powdered sugar with the Meringue Powder, then slowly add water to melt it down. This is where the Kitchen Aide really came in handy--for maximizing the amount of space in the kitchen that could be covered by powdered sugar!
What you can't see from the picture is that my pants are COVERED in powdered sugar. But in the end, we managed to whip it to stiff peaks, seal it in plastic zip lock bags and send it off to school.
Blessedly, the rest will be accomplished by Mrs. Hazel's 4th grade class. Hopefully, we'll be posting pictures of some lovely graham cracker "ginger bread" houses by morning!
